My research interests center on intervertebral disc biomechanics and biology, with emphasis on mechanisms of degeneration and repair. My group utilizes several techniques to address these research areas that include: material property testing and constitutive model development; finite element models to calculate the disc's response to load; in vivo animal models of degeneration, treatment, and repair; and in vitro cell and tissue culture models for disc cell function and response to therapeutic agents.
